David Creedon

David Creedon ARPS   ABPPA

David Creedon was born in Cork Ireland. As a teenager he liked the way in which theatrical lighting was used to isolate and give prominence to an artist on stage so he began to photograph local and touring bands to try and capture the atmosphere of the concerts he would attend.

His work is very varied but he tends to work more on themed portfolios. He has been described as a conceptual documentary photographer and among the projects he has worked on are: Ghosts of the Faithful Departed, Variations on Pianoforte, Easter Parade, IL Carneval di Venezia, World Cup 2002, Automobiles, and Flowers. His portraits of Irish musicians are very striking and have an almost a film noir feel about them.

An Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and the British Professional Photographers Association his work is regularly published and has been featured in a range of prestigious European, American & Austrialian photographic magazines. His images have also appeared on various cd covers and his work has recently featured for Nobel Literature prizewinner Gabriel José García Márquez on his book “The Autumn of the Patriarch”.

He has exhibited in the United States, the UK and Ireland. His portfolio "Ghosts of the Faithful Departed" has received the runner up award from PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris for features and also has been chosen by the British Council to take part in their touring exhibition "Close to Home". The exhibition was launched in London as part of the international summit in March 2008, it is now touring throughout Europe and will visit Romania, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Israel, Georgia, Armenia, Cyprus, and Bulgaria.

In January 2009 a major solo exhibition of his work will be hosted at the prestigious Photofusion gallery in London, while later in the year a twelve-week solo show is been planned for New York.

In Ireland Creedon’s work has been described "as one of the most significant collections of photography in contemporary Ireland and will be amongst the most important works of Irish art in years to come", while another critic has written, "His haunting photographs transcend the documentary form and enter the realm of art, they are poems in photographs". His photographs are held in public & private collections in America and Europe.
